Update from Local 592 President, Jenny Schar:
The 592 Executive Board has been working diligently towards completing all the business processes necessary to start-up Local 592 and close out Locals 549 and 540. We have also spent a lot of time changing some of the manual processes 549 used in the past by upgrading to more online-based systems. In the long run, these changes will produce a much more efficient process to manage our day-to-day financial tasks.
Running concurrently are monthly negotiations at 6 out of 11 of our airlines. Our International Air Vice President, Gary Peterson, has been instrumental, alongside our Air Carrier Reps, to support our dispatch negotiations and keep our agenda moving forward. I have also been able to attend Horizon and ExpressJet negotiations over the past month to offer additional administrative support, and I look forward to attending Republic negotiations in January.
In early 2019, we will be finalizing our 592 Budget and will continue establishing our 592 Committees. Schedules permitting, I would like to commit to have at least one member from our Executive Board attend each of our 1st Quarter membership meetings. Because our network is so vast--it may be challenging, but we will try to meet our goal. Our objective is to support all the Air Carrier Reps so that they can support you. We will find ways to become a more cohesive unit that supports one another so that our union process at UPS – to Alaska – to Hawaiian-- to PSA all looks the same-- no matter what carrier you work for, our foundation will be the same.
In the coming months, we will be communicating more section updates on the website and will be seeking volunteers to fill roles on the many 592 committees being formed.
Happy Holidays, Dispatchers! I wish everyone a peaceful, healthy, and safe New Year!
